What it does

Built for people
who own their music.

Plays MP3, FLAC, ALAC, AAC and WAV

Your files, in the formats you actually keep them in — lossy or lossless. FLAC and ALAC play at native quality, with no conversion step and no re-encoding.

Folders are playlists

Struna reads the folder structure you already keep. No import step, no library database to rebuild, no "add to collection" ritual — move a folder and the playlist moves with it.

Everything stays local

Your files never leave your Mac. Struna runs inside Apple's App Sandbox and can only read the folders you hand it through the system picker — nothing else, nothing uploaded.

Internet radio

A built-in catalog of stations, plus any stream URL you want to add yourself. Struna quietly checks once a week whether stations are still on air — and you can switch that off entirely.

Sounds for work

White noise and ambient background audio, built in. The same player you listen to albums in also carries you through a focus session — no second app, no browser tab.

A widget in the menu bar

Playback where you actually glance: a compact widget that lives in the top menu bar, so the main window only opens when you want it.

Made to fit your desk

Themes, layout, and the widget itself can be shaped to match how you work — quiet enough to disappear, or as present as you like.

Keyboard first

Shortcuts you assign yourself, a queue you can pull open at any moment, and a window that gets out of the way once the music starts.

Works offline

Local playback never needs a connection. A license activates online once, then keeps working offline for good — only radio asks for the internet.

Questions

Straight answers.

What is Struna?

Struna is a local music player for macOS. It plays audio files stored on your own Mac — MP3, FLAC, ALAC, AAC and WAV — using your existing folder structure as playlists. It also streams internet radio and includes ambient sounds for work such as white noise.

Which audio formats does Struna play?

MP3, FLAC, ALAC, AAC and WAV. Lossless formats such as FLAC and ALAC play at their native quality — nothing is transcoded on the way in.

Does Struna require an account or a subscription?

No to both. A license is a one-time purchase of $19.99, and the free edition never expires — so the app keeps working whether or not you ever buy it.

Does Struna upload my music or track what I listen to?

No. Your files never leave your Mac. Struna runs inside Apple's App Sandbox and can only read folders you explicitly choose. Your library, playlists and listening history stay on your device, and the app runs no analytics and no crash reporting.

Can Struna play internet radio?

Yes. There is a built-in catalog of stations, and you can add any stream URL yourself. A weekly check confirms stations are still on air, and that check can be switched off in settings.

Does Struna have white noise or sounds for focus?

Yes. Ambient sounds for work — white noise and similar background audio — are built in, so the same player covers both albums and focus sessions.

Does Struna work offline?

Local playback needs no internet connection at all. A license activates online once and then works offline permanently. Only internet radio requires a connection.

Is Struna available to download yet?

Not yet. Struna is in closed development and there are no public alpha builds. Write to [email protected] to be told when it ships.
